Expectations

When I think of expecting something of someone, the thought is usually “why did they do or say that”? When in reality, we never really talk about the expectations that we have for people that we associate ourselves with. We just assume that because of the type of relationship it is, the other person should respond according to their role in the relationship. Unfortunately, that’s not the case because we all come from different environments; our rearing and values may be different. Therefore, we have to communicate what our expectations are. We shouldn’t find ourselves in an uproar when people don’t do what we expect them to when we have never conveyed our thoughts or needs to them. Try communicating to your spouse children, parents, coworkers, etc. and see if there is a difference in having your needs meet.
